Different Sedation Options
Oral Sedation: This sedation option is administered orally. You will take a pill about an hour prior to your treatment. Patients will feel comfortable, and at ease. Once the medication wears off, the majority of patients have no memory of the surgery.
IV Sedation: This type of sedation is administered intravenously into the blood. IV sedation can range from mild to heavy, and most patients typically report feeling sleepy. Patients who receive heavy sedation may not have memory regarding the surgery.
Nitrous oxide is given through a breathing apparatus. It makes the patient feel more safe while undergoing a surgery.
Local anesthetic is administered to patients with a syringe. It numbs the region, resulting in a tingling, swelling sensation. Drooling and trouble speaking, and eating are some potential side effects but after a few hours these side effects stop.
In order to determine what will be the best option for you, Dr. Bashar is ready to assist you. If you have any dental phobia, oral or IV sedation can be a viable option for you.
